Mesa Water Announces Video Contest Winners

COSTA MESA, Calif.; May 30, 2024 ā€” Mesa Water District (Mesa Water) congratulates eight local students for their winning videos promoting water awareness. Three monetary prizes were awarded to the following winners:

  • 1st Place ā€“ $1,000 ā€“ India Howerton, Graydon Sage, Aubrey Spallone and Jaydon Ferrier from Costa Mesa High School
  • 2nd Place - $750 ā€“ Alejandro Sanchez from Costa Mesa High School and Marcelina Sanchez from Early College High School
  • 3rd Place - $500 ā€“ Gregory Dodd from Vanguard University and Diego Xahuentitla from Costa Mesa High School


ā€œItā€™s an inspiration to see the studentsā€™ creativity that highlights Mesa Waterā€™s 100% local, reliable, clean and safe water. The winning students captured our attention with their unique and entertaining storytelling about Mesa Waterā€™s abundant source of local water for the community we serve,ā€ says Shawn Dewane, Mesa Water Board President.

Students who live in or attend high schools and colleges in the Mesa Water service area were invited to submit a fun and informative video (60 seconds or less) addressing one the following questions:

  • Why is it safe to drink Mesa Water straight from the tap? ā€“ #ByeByeBottled
  • What does it mean to you that Mesa Water is 100% local? ā€“ #PurelyLocal
  • Why do you love Mesa Water? ā€“ #ILoveMesaWater


Winners attended Mesa Waterā€™s regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting on May 22 to accept their prizes and be recognized by the Board. Students also received certificates of congressional recognition from U.S. Congresswoman Katie Porterā€™s office.

Mesa Water also presented Amazon gift cards for classroom supplies to the winnersā€™ teachers who referred and encouraged the students to participate in the video contest.
