Inicio About Us Operations Construction Updates CONSTRUCTION UPDATES Wilson Street Pipeline Replacement Project Project Background Committed to providing 100% safe, local and reliable drinking water, Mesa Water District (Mesa Water®) will replace the underground steel pipeline on Wilson Street from the Newport Boulevard intersection to the Harbor Boulevard intersection in Costa Mesa. The existing pipeline was installed in 1951 and needs to be replaced due to its age. It is approximately 4,580 linear feet in length – nearly a mile. Construction Construction will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and will be completed by Spring 2022. Following the completion of Mesa Water’s Wilson Street Pipeline Replacement Project, the City of Costa Mesa will begin resurfacing Wilson Street. The current 12-inch cement mortar-lined and coated (CMLC) pipeline will be replaced by a new 12-inch polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipeline. Project work will also include upgrades involving pipelines at street intersections, existing service lines, underground meter boxes and fire hydrants. Potential Construction Impacts Traffic will be accessible in both directions and/or detoured during the partial lane closure near the areas where the new pipeline is being installed. Other potential impacts during construction include temporary bus stop closures/relocation, temporary parking restrictions and minimal dust, noise and vibration. There will be periods of night work from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday, at the intersections of Wilson Street and Harbor Boulevard and Wilson Street and Fairview Road. The existing pipeline system will remain in service while the new pipeline is being constructed. There will be no disruption in water service to customers during construction, although some customers may experience a short-term interruption to their water service next year when the existing service line is connected to the new pipeline. Every effort will be made to notify customers of any potential interruptions. For a PDF version of the Fact Sheet click here. For Wilson Street FAQs click here.
