Mesa Water’s Award-Winning Pipeline Integrity Program Efficiently Replaces Pipes, Saves Rate Payers Money

Mesa Water is leading the charge in infrastructure renewal with its innovative Pipeline Integrity Program (PiP), which proactively measures pipeline condition to maximize useful life. Using acoustic sensor technology, an acoustic wave travels through the pipe to measure the pipe wall’s structural thickness. The data allows Mesa Water to keep the pipes that are in good condition and service or replace those that need renewal, as well as develop long-term infrastructure budget plans. This will save Mesa Water an estimated $230 million over the next 30 years, and that means cost-savings for customers too.

Since its inception in 2015, articles about the PiP have been published in top industry publications, and the program has received numerous awards, including first place in the California Municipal Utilities Association Resource Efficiency & Community Service Awards, which highlight best practices in California’s electric and water industries.
