Shawn Dewane Voted by the Board to Serve as President; Ethan Temianka to Serve as Vice President

Costa Mesa, Calif.; December 22, 2014 – Mesa Water District (Mesa Water) Directors Jim Atkinson and Shawn Dewane were re-elected this November to each serve a four-year term on the Mesa Water Board of Directors (Board). Subsequently, at its regular Board meeting on Thursday, December 11, 2014, the Board officially named Shawn Dewane of Division V to serve as Board President, and Ethan Temianka from Division III to serve as Vice President.

Director Atkinson has served on Mesa Water’s Board since 1998 and ran for Director Division IV against a long-time Costa Mesa resident, while Director Dewane ran unopposed.

Dewane was appointed to Mesa Water’s Board in 2005, elected in 2006, and re-elected in 2010, most recently serving as Board Vice President. Dewane is currently a member of the Orange County Water District (OCWD) Board of Directors, and Chairman of CalDesal, a nonprofit organization devoted to the responsible development of ocean desalination.

“Clean, affordable water is fundamental to our quality of life and key to the economic development of our community,” says Dewane. “The Mesa Water Board is working to increase the local and regional water supply and preserve our water rights, while promoting fiscal responsibility and transparency in government.”

Vice President Temianka was elected to Mesa Water’s Board of Directors in 2012 to serve a four-year term. He served as Parks Commissioner for the City of Costa Mesa from 2010 to 2012. He serves on the Membership Committee of the statewide Association of California Water Agencies. Temianka believes in high levels of transparency and accountability in local government, pledging to maintain a long-term approach toward budget management in order to ensure Mesa Water’s fiscal sustainability.
