Atkinson, Bockmiller to Lead Mesa Water District Board

Veteran directors to guide water district through perpetual infrastructure improvements

COSTA MESA, Calif. – Mesa Water District (Mesa Water®), a top-performing public water agency, has elected Jim Atkinson to serve as Board President and Fred Bockmiller to serve as Vice President through December 13, 2018. President Atkinson has served on the Board since 1998 and represents the Division IV communities of College Park, Mesa del Mar and Monticello, as well as John Wayne Airport and the OC Fairgrounds. This is his fourth term as Board President. Vice President Bockmiller has served on the Board since 1996 and represents Division I, encompassing the Westside of Costa Mesa and portions of Newport Beach. This is his sixth term as Vice President.

President Atkinson and Vice President Bockmiller additionally represent Mesa Water® on Boards of statewide agencies, raising the profile of Mesa Water and its customers to decision-makers in Sacramento. President Atkinson serves on the Region 10 Board of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) and Vice President Bockmiller serves on the Board of the ACWA Joint Powers Insurance Authority to ensure Mesa Water’s engagement in addressing regulatory, fiscal, and insurance issues that can impact the cost of water service.

“Efficiency, high-quality water, and fiscal accountability are instrumental to Mesa Water’s operations and we are committed to championing cost-effective water service, reliability, and transparency to our customers,” said President Atkinson.

Mesa Water is investing in perpetual infrastructure improvements that continue the Board’s tradition of making wise investments in a sustainable water supply. One way that the District has controlled its water costs is by investing in the Mesa Water Reliability Facility, which allows the District to provide 100 percent locally-sourced groundwater supplies that are lower cost than imported surface water supplies.
