2013 Strategic Plan Lists Seven Goals Guiding Mesa Water’s Performance

Costa Mesa, Calif.; April 14, 2013 – The Mesa Water District (Mesa Water) Board of Directors updated its strategic plan which guides the District’s performance in providing high-quality water to Mesa Water customers.  The updated strategic plan was adopted by Mesa Water’s Board at its April 11 meeting.

“The strategic plan is designed to guide Mesa Water in achieving its overall mission of satisfying our community’s water needs,” says James R. Fisler, President of the Mesa Water Board of Directors.  President Fisler continues, “This in turn benefits our customers in that, as a result of the District’s past strategic plans, Mesa Water is now AAA-rated, one of the most efficient water districts in Orange County, and able to serve 100 percent of its customer’s needs with local, reliable water supplies while significantly reducing our carbon footprint.”

Mesa Water’s 2013 Strategic Plan includes the following updated six strategic goals, with a new seventh goal:

  • Provide a safe, abundant, and reliable water supply.
  • Practice perpetual infrastructure renewal and improvement.
  • Be financially responsible and transparent.
  • Increase public awareness about Mesa Water and about water.
  • Attract and retain skilled employees.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Actively participate in regional water issues.

Each of the seven strategic goals is of equal importance and priority to the District’s performance.

In order to achieve its strategic plan goals, Mesa Water uses best management practices and regularly reviews its business and operations, including:

  • Conducting over 30,000 water quality tests annually;
  • Updating Mesa Water’s Water System Master Plan;
  • Conducting a Business Process Evaluation of Mesa Water’s work processes;
  • Annually posting the District’s audited Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, and updating the District’s compensation information for all Board and staff members on Mesa Water’s website;
  • Polling residents in Mesa Water’s area about their opinion of the District and its customer service; and,
  • Updating Mesa Water’s Urban Water Management Plan every 5 years.

These and other reviews of Mesa Water’s business and operations are intended to ensure that the District is performing productively in the provision of water services to its customers in an effective, efficient, and economical manner.
