Mesa Water District Board of Directors Approves New Labor Agreement with Employee Association

New Agreement Includes Three Percent Net Salary Increase Over Four Years with No Increase in Employee Benefits

Costa Mesa, Calif. – On Thursday, February 13, 2014, the Mesa Water District (Mesa Water) Board of Directors (Board) approved a new labor agreement with its Employee’s Association that provides a total of a three percent net salary increase for its staff over the next four years. The new agreement provides no new benefits to employees.

The new agreement is effective January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2017 and is Mesa Water’s proactive approach to achieving new employee retirement contribution requirements ahead of schedule. The new retirement contribution rule requires that existing employees contribute up to fifty percent of their pension contribution to the CalPERS program beginning January 1, 2018.

Under the new agreement, employees will begin making contributions in calendar year 2014, with amounts increasing each year. All other employee benefits remain the same.

Mesa Water values its employees and its Board has adopted a strategic plan goal to “attract and retain skilled employees.” The 2014-2017 agreement between Mesa Water and its Employee’s Association helps to fulfill this strategic goal.
