The Mesa Water Board recognized first responders from the Nov. 11th four-alarm industrial fire at 864 Production Place in Newport Beach (in Mesa Water’s service area) at its December meeting, thanking them for their brave firefighting efforts.

Mutual aid was provided by Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach and Newport Beach fire departments. The battle lasted 40 hours with 42 firefighters fighting the blaze. At the time of the fire, around 2:30 a.m., Mesa Water’s system was filling the Karl Kemp Reservoir at 4,000 gallons per minute (gpm). Engines are capable of pumping 1,200 gpm, which caused a brief dip in water pressure, with the system quickly adjusting. Mesa Water staff responded and carefully monitored water pressure to make sure the system was meeting the needs of the fire, as well as regular water demands for customers. The Nov. 11th fire proved that Mesa Water’s delivery system is well-maintained and ready for an emergency. Thank you, firefighters, for keeping us safe.
