MESA HELPS DRY UP ORANGE COUNTY FAIR

Costa Mesa, Calif. –Mesa Consolidated Water District (Mesa) and the Orange County Fair (Fair) moved quickly this year to make the Fair more water-wise following Governor Schwarzenegger’s drought proclamation and request to reduce water usage by 20%.

Preliminary numbers indicate decreased water usage of about 730,000 gallons in comparison to last year. The savings in water is attributed to the installation of synthetic turf, waterless urinals, and irrigation improvements. Funding for the upgrades is being coordinated by Mesa through a special grant program from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

In the days before the opening, several waterless urinals were installed in the most high traffic restrooms. Positive results are being reported so far and evaluations are being made to determine the feasibility of converting approximately 100 urinals throughout the grounds.

Mesa and the Fair have also been urging visitors to conserve water with banners located at the main gates and tip cards in the restrooms.

Conservation tips and information about rebate programs is available at www.mesawater.org, or by calling (949) 631-1205.

Mesa provides water service to more than 100,000 customers in an 18 square-mile area. The service area includes the city of Costa Mesa, parts of Newport Beach, and the John Wayne Airport. Mesa is dedicated to satisfying our community's water needs.
